Try This at Home

Blasting onto the air in 2003, Mythbusters proved there was no question too big, too small, or too ridiculous to put to the test. From chicken cannons to rocket cars and even a galaxy far, far away, the iconic Discovery Channel series did it all and left its mark on a generation of fans. Now hosts Cliff Bumgardner and Harrison Stewart are going back to revisit every myth, moment, experiment, and explosion from the show’s legendary run – and they’re inviting you along for the ride.

Wednesday Dec 18, 2024
Wednesday Dec 18, 2024
This week, we're going right to the source. The one and only Adam Savage joins Cliff and Harrison for the first (but not the last?) time to talk his memories of the show we all love. It's a dream come true for our hosts as they pick Adam's brain on the origins of Mythbusters, how the show evolved, and what he thinks made it so special. Plus: Were those really convicts in the back of the deli?! It's the perfect cap to an incredible season of Mythbusting on this week's Try This at Home!
Catch the video version of this episode on our YouTube page. Try This at Home will return in January of 2025. In the meantime, we wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season full of warmth, love, and of course... Mythbusters!
CORRECTION: In this episode, Adam identifies Peter Heap as the cameraman who missed the epic shot of the collapsing scaffold. It actually wasn't Peter. It's been 20+ years, these things happen. But to learn about many of the awesome things Peter DID do, check out his episode of the podcast, airing in April of 2025!

The Voice of Mythbusters - with Robert Lee
Wednesday Dec 11, 2024
Wednesday Dec 11, 2024
All season long, Cliff and Harrison have delighted in the work of the show's lone unseen Mythbuster – a critical presence felt in every episode as he delivers facts, puns, and a few great Adam and Jamie burns. We're talking of course about Mythbusters' iconic narrator, Robert Lee. A professional voice artist for decades, he's the voice in your head anytime you hear the phrase "Busted," and having leant his inimitable (though it hasn't stopped us from trying) style to every single episode of the show, plus the spin off series, commercials, clips specials, and more, he's the longest serving cast member in Mythbusters history.
This week, Cliff and Rob sit down to talk about how he got into voice work, his incredible Mythbusters tenure, and whether or not he ever actually stepped foot in M5. The great guests just keep coming on this week's Try This at Home!

Season 2 of Try This at Home is just around the corner, but before they move ahead in the rewatch Cliff and Harrison wanted to take one more look back at the show they've seen so far – and they've brought along some very special guests to help! This week, the guys cast their votes for the best Mythbusters Side Character, Best Explosion, and overall Best Myth from season 1. Then they chat with writer and producer Andrew Farrell about his time on the show, how he approached crafting an episode, and his memories of the legendary Stinky Car myth. All this plus a few surprises on this season 1 recap of Try This at Home!

The Folklore of Mythbusters - with Dr. Heather Joseph-Witham
Wednesday Nov 13, 2024
Wednesday Nov 13, 2024
All throughout season one, Cliff and Harrison have marveled at how Mythbusters managed to pull off its unique blend of science and mythology. And outside of Adam and Jamie, no one was more crucial to that mix than the show's resident folklorist, Dr. Heather Joseph-Witham. This week the guys sit down with her to ask about her career, her memories of making the show – and why her time on Mythbusters came to a sudden end. It's a true dream conversation with a bonafide season 1 star on this week's Try This at Home!
Try This at Home season 2 will premiere in January, 2025 – in the meantime, catch exclusive bonus episodes and interviews dropping on the feed every two weeks.

212: Buried in Concrete / Daddy Longlegs / Jet Taxi
Wednesday Nov 06, 2024
Wednesday Nov 06, 2024
It's the final episode of season one, but the Mythbusters – and Try This at Home – still have a few surprises up their sleeves. It's a jam-packed episode seemingly designed to make our hosts squirm as Adam and Jamie tackle the myth of Teamsters boss Jimmy Hoffa's final resting place. Is he at the 50 yard line in giants stadium? Do we need to leave rotting pigs in front of M5 for two months to answer that question? The answers may surprise you! (No, we definitely didn't need the dead pigs...)
Then we meet what may become the Mythbusters' greatest villain when the insurance company shuts down an experiment to test weather a jet engine can blow a taxi off the road. And finally it's off to the Lair of the Hyneman where the creepy crawlies run wild and Cliff and Harrison scream to find out if the Daddy Longlegs is really the most dangerous spider in the world.

Wednesday Oct 30, 2024
Michael Kent, comedian, magician, and host of The Internet Says its True, joins Cliff and Harrison for the penultimate episode of season 1, and boy is it a doozy. First up it's a myth of Titanic proportions that leaves our hosts questioning, "Just what do you mean by suck?"
Then it's into the fish tank and off to the orchestra for two silly myths which might be light on science but heavy on pure WTF – Wacky Testing Fun. Season one is almost over but the explosions just keep getting bigger. Don't miss a minute on this week's new Try This at Home!

Tensions are high as Adam and Jamie tackle the myth of whether marching soldiers can destroy a bridge just by stepping in unison. Then it's off to the bathroom for a gross look at what's really on your toothbrush (hint: it's not just toothpaste).
Last but not least, a sleeper of a myth straight out of Looney Toons sneaks up and delights Cliff and Harrison, despite dark and violent thoughts. It's a romp of an episode on this week's Try This at Home!
